Construction Update

04/03/2025 - Update on Traffic Light and Roadway widening project

04/03 update from the City of Leander: We are pleased to report to you that the roadways are paved and the traffic signal at the intersection of N. Bagdad Road & Collaborative Way is in service as of last night.

EARTCโ€™s crews worked diligently to achieve the Cityโ€™s goal of having the signal in service timely in the interest of public safety especially for the LISD school bus, students of Danielson MS, Glenn HS and surrounding neighborhoods in the area.

The critical transportation/mobility infrastructure project is still in construction as EARTCโ€™s crew must apply the permanent pavement striping and markings, install street signs and replace the removed 10โ€™ wide sidewalk to include installation of an ADA ramp to complete the dedicated pedestrian crosswalk.

The temporary path is still in place to facilitate pedestrian/bicycle mobility around the work zone.

We still urge the public to reduce speed, obey temporary/permanent traffic controls and use caution within the marked construction work zone until our contractor completes the remaining roadwork anticipated to be done by the end of April.

Our public works department team changed our portable electronic message boards stationed on N. Bagdad Rd. at the south and northbound approaches to Collaborative Way yesterday to advise motorist of the signal activation and traffic pattern change.

Leander PD TEAM continuing to assist with traffic calming and eventually enforcement for traffic violations as the signal is active.

02/06/2025 - Update on Traffic Light and Roadway widening project

As of today (02/06), the Cityโ€™s contractor, EARTC have completed approximately 80% of the traffic signal work that should be ready to be turn on by mid-March weather dependent.

EARTCโ€™s road crews have also completed approximately 50% of the road reconstruction and will enter the next phase of roadwork that will entail having to remove the existing 10โ€™ sidewalk & curb/gutter along North Bagdad Road to shift the new dedicated right turn lane for eastbound Collaborative Way starting next week.

Existing temporary traffic controls and warning signs will be repositioned beforehand to protect pedestrians, workers & motorist.

Approximately 300-feet of existing 10โ€™ public sidewalk at the SE corner of N. Bagdad & Collaborative Wy. will be closed for removal but a temporary walking path marked by orange construction safety fencing has been installed by our contractor to pedestrian traffic through the work zone. All other public sidewalks in the area will remain open.

Drivers should expect minor delays and are urged to reduce their speed through the marked work zone, obey all directions from the flaggers and observe traffic control warning signs.ย ย

The remaining road work to include planned new asphalt pavement surfacing, striping/marking and signal activation at the intersection is still tentatively scheduled to be completed by the end of February / mid-March timeframe, weather dependent.

Request from City of Leander to Homestead residents;

Due to the upcoming roadwork at the intersection of N. Bagdad Rd., & Collaborative Wy. We encourage residents to use alternate routes until mid-March if possible, such as Harrongton Wy., & N. Bagdad Rd., or Collaborative Wy. Heading east to Halsey Drive to avoid the heavy construction at the Collaborative Wy. & N. Bagdad Rd., intersection especially during peak morning & afternoon rush hours.

  • Residents can contact City of Leander, Construction Inspector – Lek Mateo on (512) 638-7010 if they observe any safety/nuisance issues by their homes that require immediate attention by the contractor or the City.

01/10/2025 - Update on Traffic Poles/Arms Installation

City of Leander will be installing traffic poles/arms and they will have to halt traffic periodically for safety reasons on Tuesday (01/14). Below is the detailed update received on 01/10/2025;

EARTC received the traffic signal poles and mast arms this week and are scheduled to install the equipment at the intersection of N. Bagdad Road and Collaborative Way next week.

The two metal poles will be installed on Monday, 1/13/2025 and mounting of the mast arms with signal light heads the following Tuesday, 1/14/2025.

The setting of poles along the shoulder will not impact traffic but the hanging of the mast arms will require full-road closure at the intersection to prevent vehicles, bicyclist, and pedestrian from entering the hazardous work zone when the heavy mast arms is lifted and mounted to the poles by a mobile crane.

The road closure will be managed by contracted law enforcement officers and will be performed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. so as not to impact rush hour traffic.

The stoppage will not exceed 15 minutes in duration and EARTC estimated the lift work to take no more than 1-hour to complete.

Please keep in mind that the signal lights will be covered to advise motorist that they are not active, and the regulatory stop sign posted on Collaborative Way will remain in place until the traffic signal is place into service โ€“ hopefully by the end of February. We continue to ask drivers, bicyclist & pedestrians to use caution, reduce speed through the work zone and observe all traffic control warning signs as our contractor are trying to safely facilitate the roadwork while maintaining mobility for the public through the construction site. More details were shared by the City of Leander in this Facebook Post

12/18/2024 - Update on Traffic Light and Roadway widening project

City of Leander shared the following information with the board on December 18, 2024;

“EARTC crews have adjusted their temporary traffic controls for the upcoming Phase-2 road reconstruction that will start by the end of this week and will involve building a new northbound lane from Collaborative Wy., to Harrongton Wy., to facilitate a new dedicated protected left turn lane and realign the existing dedicated right turn lane and 10โ€™ sidewalk to Collaborative Wy.

Our contractorโ€™s crew are working very hard and expeditiously as weather permits to try and complete the roadway/signal improvements by February 2025.

Our contractor has installed cautionary orange work zone 30-MPH speed limit signs on N. Bagdad at the approaches to our work zone at Collaborative, CR 280 and Harrongton Way to ask drivers to reduce their speed so that our workers will not get hit by cars and allow other drivers to safely enter N. Bagdad Rd.”

City of Leander request:

  • Homestead Residents are requested to use alternate routes and avoid making left turn from Harrongton Way onto N. Bagdad Road as the view of the roadway may be impeded by existing road topography, construction activity and temporary traffic control barriers needed to protect workers and the public.
  • Residents can contact City of Leander, Construction Inspector – Lek Mateo on (512) 638-7010ย if they observe any safety/nuisance issues by their homes that require immediate attention by our contractor or the City.
